10 things that bring about the Love of Allah – Ibn alQayyim

Asalamu alaykum!

10 things that bring about the Love of Allah – Ibn alQayyim

1. Recitation of the Qur’an with reflection and understanding of its meaning.

2. Seeking closeness to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after obligatory ones, for that leads one to the highest levels of love.

3. Remembering Allah in every situation by one’s time, heart and deeds. One’s share of that love is to the degree of one’s share with that remembrance.

4. Preferring what He loves to what you love when your desires are strong.

5. Allowing your heart to reflect on His Names and Attributes.

6. Reflecting on His many favours and blessings both the apparent ones and hidden ones, for that leads to His love.

7. Having your heart soften as it is worshipping Allah.

love in the sand8. Being alone with Him in worship when He descends during the last third of the night. To invoke Him, to recite His speech (Quran), to stand with all sincerity (in prayer) and with good manners and good submission (humility) and to end that with repentance and seeking His forgiveness.

9. Sitting with those who are truthful in their love of Allah.

10. Staying away from all that creates barriers between the heart and Allah.

Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to mankind): “If you (really) love Allah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur’an and the Sunnah), Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Qur’an chapter 3 verse 31]

May Allah enable us to be of those whom He loves and is pleased with, and those who practise what we preach, ya Salam, ya Rabb al alameen! Allahumma salli wasallim alaa nabiyinaa Muhammad!

In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful

This presentation has been prepared for Thurrock Scouts group on behalf of the Thurrock Muslim community. We appreciate this opportunity and thank you for reaching out to us.

We are delighted to present our faith to you and hope this will be an opportunity to foster peace and prosperity in the community.

peace in the sand

We’re going to start with a simple summary of our religion, Islam. Then we’ll talk about the relationship between Islam, Muslims and the wider community. And we’ll finish with a summary and an opportunity for you to ask any questions.

So what is Islam? Islam is a major world religion, practiced by an estimated 1.6bn people worldwide. Islam means submission to The One True God worthy of worship, called “Allah” in the Arabic language. Allah is The Creator and Lord of all that exists. A Muslim worships Allah.

Islam is the faith of absolute monotheism, meaning Muslims acknowledge the complete Oneness of God/Allah (see chapter 112 The Qur’an). Muslims believe that Allah (The One True God) is the only One worthy of worship. Allah has no partners, no children, no family and no need for anything, as He is Self-Sufficient.

Allah sent prophets and messengers and books of revelation to guide mankind. We believe in many prophets, including Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and the final prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them all). We believe in the original versions of the previous scriptures revealed to the previous generations, such as the Torah, Psalms and Gospel. We believe in and implement the final revelation, The Qur’an.

Muslims believe the purpose in life is to worship Allah alone, by following the Qur’an (the final revealed book from Allah to mankind) and the Sunnah (the guidance of His final prophet and Messenger Muhammad peace be upon him.)

shahadah

The Qur’an and the Sunnah teach us how to worship Allah, how to conduct ourselves, our rights and obligations, how to perfect our manners, how to eat, drink, dress, and how to conduct our relationships and interactions with others (including with humans, animals and the environment at large).

Unfortunately, Islam is regularly misrepresented in the mainstream media. A few criminals who commit acts of injustice, terror and oppression do not and cannot represent true Islam! Every human being makes mistakes, so we cannot judge Islam by Muslims.

It’s important to learn the true facts to dispel ignorance, stereotyping and discrimination. Knowledge about any topic is best obtained from the original source, in this case, for Islam the original source is the Qur’an and the collection of Hadith (narrations mentioning the ‘Sunnah’/traditions & teachings of the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him).

sand heart

Islam teaches Muslims to perfect their characters and morals. For example, Islam emphasizes the spread of truth, peace, mercy, justice and security for every society. Islam promotes justice and good manners with everyone, irrespective of their backgrounds and beliefs.

In summary:

  • The main message of Islam is submission to the One True God,
  • Muslims worship Allah by implementing the Qur’an and following the traditions of the final prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • The final prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught Muslims to perfect their manners and benefit their communities, and to spread truth, peace and justice, in obedience to Allah.

The prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said:

‘The merciful ones are granted mercy by the Most Merciful (Allah) . Show mercy to those who are on Earth, and the One above the heavens (Allah) will show mercy to you.’

Muharram 1438AH

Asalaamu alaykum

In the Name of Allah.

MUHARRAM 1438

Dear readers, we entered the new Islamic year a couple of days ago, walhamdulillah.

We are now in the first month of Hijri year 1438, Muharram.
moon banner

Muharram is a month of great virtue. It is of the four sacred months out of twelve months in the Islamic calendar.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, the number of months with Allaah is twelve months (in a year), so was it ordained by Allaah on the Day when He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are Sacred (i.e. the 1st, the 7th, the 11th and the 12th months of the Islamic calendar). That is the right religion, so wrong not yourselves therein”

[al-Tawbah 9:36]

Allah, The Almighty, has made it a sacred month of great virtue. May He allow us to abstain from sins, to turn to Him in repentance, and to run back to Him with good deeds, for verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds.

And Allah is The Most Generous. Oh Allah we ask for Your peace and blessings upon The final prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Ameen ya Rabb al ‘aalameen.

It is encouraged to fast in Muharram, particularly the 10th (Ashoora’), and the preceding day with it (Tasooaa’). Let us take advantage of these beautiful autumn days, in sha Allah.

It was proven from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) that the best fasting after Ramadaan is fasting in the month of Muharram.

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best fasting after Ramadaan is the month of Allaah Muharram, and the best prayer after the obligatory prayer is prayer at night.” Narrated by Muslim, 1163.

Regarding the significance of fasting on Ashoora’ :

The reason why the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora’ and urged the people to do likewise is mentioned in the hadeeth narrated by al-Bukhaari (1865) from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashoora’. He said, “What is this?” They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day.” He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “We are closer to Moosa than you.” So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.

Fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’ does expiate (minor sins) for the past year, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Fasting the day of ‘Arafah I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year before it and the year after it, and fasting the day of ‘Ashoora’  I hope Allaah will expiate thereby for the year that came before it.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162.

‘Abd-Allaah ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) fasted on the day of ‘Ashoora and told the people to fast, they said, “O Messenger of Allaah, this is a day that is venerated by the Jews and Christians.” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Next year, if Allaah wills, we will fast on the ninth day.” But by the time the following year came, the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had passed away.

 Narrated by Muslim, 1916.

It is expected that 9th Muharram 1437 will coincide with Monday 10th October 2016, and Tuesday 11th October 2016 will be the 10th, or Ashoora’. May Allah grant us sincerity and the ability to seize the opportunity this Ashoora’ by fasting to gain His reward, love and forgiveness, through implementing the Sunnah of His final messenger Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam. ameen

With love for the sake of Allah

NOW’S THE TIME! – Fasting in SHAWWAL after Ramadan

NOW’S THE TIME! – Fasting in SHAWWAL after Ramadan

Asalamu ‘alaykum amazing individuals

So we’re 8 days into Shawwal 1437, it’s been a week post Ramadan. How are you feeling iman-wise?

olives n breadPerhaps we’ve slacked a little on our Qur’an recitation regime…

Perhaps we’re not praying much optional prayers…

Perhaps we’ve fallen into the same bad habits pre-Ramadan…

Feeling regretful? That’s the first step to change. Let us acknowledge our faults, and seek Allah’s forgiveness. Let us resolve to change for the better.

WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE!

Let’s revive the Ramadan atmosphere by increasing our ibadah, by quality and quantity in sha Allah!

We have around 21 days left to make a positive difference!

Top Tips to revive our iman (faith, in statement and action) after Ramadan

  1. Let us make more istighfar, seek Allah’s forgiveness, saying Astaghfirullah, SubhanAllahi wabihamdi, Astaghfirullaha wa atoobo ilayhi, and this amazing dua called sayyid al istighfar you MUST learn (click here!)
  2. Strive to pray the five prayers on time
  3. Strive to spend in charity
  4. Do good and remind others to do good and keep away from and forbid evil, trying hard to practice what we preach.
  5. Read more Qur’an at least a page or so a day, try to read some tafsir or translation too.
  6. Have good character/perfecting it
  7. Make someone smile : )
  8. More remembrance of Allah, subhanaAllah, walhamdulillah, wallahuakbar, wa la ilaha ilallah! Because it’s all about Allah, Al-Wahid, alone!
  9. Do sunnah acts, optional prayers
  10. Fast 6 days of Shawwal! Here’s an awesome opportunity…

Abu Ayyub (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “He who observes As-Saum (the fasts) in the month of Ramadan, and also observes As-Saum for six days in the month of Shawwal, it is as if he has observed As-Saum for the whole year.”

[Muslim].

Subhanallah, WOW! : o

Narrated Abu Ayyub:

The Prophet (ﷺ) as saying: If anyone fasts during Ramadan, then follows it with six days in Shawwal, it will be like a perpetual fast.

Reference : Sunan Abi Dawud 2433, sahih Al-Albani

ALLAHUAKBAR!

Don’t forget to make up what you owe of this Ramadan first (if any obligatory ones are outstanding e.g. ladies during their days off -menses etc.). We must complete Ramadan before following it with the Shawwal fasts, in sha Allah, as the Imam of Masjid an Nabawi reminded us in the Friday Sermon last year in Shawwal.

What an amazing sunnah, let’s try to fulfil this in sha Allah and tell others too, for the sake of Allah. Alhamdulillah. May Allah grant us the ability to serve Him according to Qur’an and Sunnah, with sincerity and sound intentions. wasallallahu ala nabiyinaa Muhammad. ameen ya Rab al alameen!

By the way this is a reminder to me before it is to you, so do comment below on anything you may want to add! May Allah forgive us for any errors! ameen

The Ruling and Sunnah’s of Eid

Description of Eid prayer

When should zakat-al-fitr be paid

Some top tips (see above links for references from Qur’an and sunnah):

1- Make sure you’ve paid zakat-ul-fitr, before the Eid salat.

2- Keep pronouncing the takbeer (starts on night of Eid until the imam emerges to lead the Eid prayer.) The Takbeer is:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu Akbar, laa ilaha illAllah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillaahilHamd.

(Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, There is no true god worthy of worship, except Allah. Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great, Allah is Most Great and all praise be to Allah.)

3-Have ghusl in the morning before going out to pray

4- Ensure you have eaten something before the prayer of Eid-ul-Fitr. Try eating an odd number of dates, as the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam did.

5- Men should go out wearing their finest clothes, perfume etc. When going out or in the presence of non-mahram men, women should avoid perfume. Women can wear their fine clothes so long as it is concealed by a full and complete, unadorned Hijab. When in female only environments, or among their mahram relatives, women may adorn themselves appropriately. My dear readers, let us remind ourselves that obedience to Allah takes precedence over all else. We have just fasted Ramadan to gain Taqwa, let us keep working on it for Allah alone!

6- Pray the Eid prayer in congregation

7- Congratulate one another! Taqabbal Allahu minnaa wa minkum (May Allah accept (the fast and worship) from us and from you)

8- Go out to pray one route, and return by another.

Check out the links above for more!
