We are now in the sacred month of Rajab walhamdulillah and we would like to remind ourselves about the importance of the four sacred months in Islam. Rajah is the 7th month of the Islamic calendar. They are Rajab, Dhul Qad’ah, Dhul Hijjah and Muharram, the 7th, 11th, 12th and 1st month of the Islamic Hijri calander respectively. (see Surah Tawbah, Qur’an chapter 9 verse 36). Hear Dr Muhammad Salah clarify things for us:
May Allah forgive us, be merciful to us and guide us, for He is the Most Gracious the Most Merciful, The Ever-Relenting. May Allah enable us to witness and observe many Ramadans in His obedience, with sincerity and strength. Allah bless His final messenger Muhammad ibn Abdillah in abundance. amin

It is from the bounty of Allah that He bestowed Iman (faith) upon us, walhamdulillah. We are forever grateful to Allah for the blessing of Islam, grateful for the mercy to mankind that Allah sent to us- namely Rasoolullah Muhammad Sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and we are grateful for the revelation of the miraculous, inimitable book of guidance, Allah’s final revealed book, Al-Qur’an.
In order to appreciate these blessings fully, we need to ensure we perfect two principle matters when it comes to worship- our intention and methodology.
We must correct our intention (Niyyah), by doing acts of worship solely for Allah alone. Thereafter, we must ensure that we follow the advice and methods/Sunnah of Rasoolullah Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) regarding how to perform the acts of worship.
Reading Qur’an is an act of worship. As such, we must ensure the above two principles (correct intention and following the Sunnah) are upheld in our relationship with the Qur’an.
Therefore, let us start in the name of Allah, and learn how to recite the Qur’an correctly, following the Final prophet of Allah, Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).
The Science of Qur’an recitation is called ‘Tajweed’. Tajweed linguistically means betterment. It’s applied meaning is to ascribe to each letter their rights and characteristics (both permanent and temporary), pronouncing them from their correct articulation points.
